Congress sweep in the South

Most of the pollsters might have got it wrong in Tamilnadu and Karnataka.
In Tamilnadu, it is tough to think about anyone who might want to vote for the AIADMK led front.
The people of Karnataka would also be aware of the need to have MPs who go on to be a part of the cabinet.

The level of information penetration which has been ongoing since 1984 is at a stage where the people realise that Dr Manmohan Singh is the only choice for Prime Minister for the country to move forward. Money power might win the day for the BJP in some backward areas.

In Tamilnadu the people are politically aware and would have followed the events in the Supreme court enacted by Subramanian Swamy. There are not many persons in Tamilnadu who can or might ever be feeling a sense of not having a say in the politics of the day.
Who ever will go against stability and go for empowering Jayalalithaa on the national stage. There might be a few who would imagine that the AIADMK and the INC would get together. Everything points to a 40-0 sweep for the DPA in Tamilnadu.

In Andhra and Kerala, the congress is all set to sweep the parliamentary polls.

The South, as always, is going to contribute to the bulk of the congress seats.

The INC might get upto 110 seats in the south alone.

dr manmohan singh and the triumph of democracy

he has worked in various capacities,as a professor, director of the reserve bank, advisor to the govt, governor of the reserve bank, finance minister, leader of the opposition and is now the prime minister of the country.
if some people of the country are trying to impute a dilution of the sovereignity of the country to dr singh,it is an assumption of a failure of the state and its institutions.
who are these people who are attacking dr singh personally?
have they served in the bureaucracy,
have they served in the government,
have they contested elections,
is a person without grassroots experience in politics an easy target for political expedience.
the pm has the prerogative to negotiate deals on behalf of the country.
the prime minister does not belong to a johnny come lately party.
he is at the helm of a party which has been holding our country together and taking it from
strength to strength.
theory is theory and it can never substitute for democracy.
theorizing should guide democracy but cannot take over the democratic institutions.
this deal is being done by the prime minister in a democracy.
if some people have targeted him personally, they should not expect any courtesies from the
prime minister.
all they have available is the chance to engage in loud shouting.

pantisocracy

everybody has an opinion about the nuclear deal.
a good number of distinguished people have developed a personal angst with the pm.
everybody just does not seem to be able to stand the pm.
at the same time, there are bemoanings about dynasty being in control of the congress.
the same people are not able to trust a normal non jingoistic person as a pm.
these people seem to be saying to the pm that they do not want him to go ahead with the deal
because they just do not want him to do it,all kinds of arguments are being expended.
all of us intellectuals are screaming our guts out and how can he,who is an apolitical person press
ahead without giving a damn to our decibels.
every person with a view wants the pm to hold on so that they can feel good about having stopped a prime minister in his work.
is the prime minister a qualified man or not?
is he the prime minister or not?
does he consult with the establishment or not?
do the people who are not in govt have more knowhow than the bureaucrats in the establishment?
there does not seem to be any confidence at all in these people.
will we be dealing with the russians and others or not?

government is all about action,
it is not for people who ponder forever,
the same holds for the sethu project,
some people will forever be wondering about the ecological impact.
as a retired navyman said, digging the earth to build a house also has ecological impact.

government is all about educated decisions and moving forward.
everybody cannot be consulted for an opinion.
we are nowhere near being a pantisocracy.

things have to be taken in their stride.
tarapore happened at a different point in time.

SINGH IS KING

I saw this headline on one of the comments on rediff.com,

http://www.rediff.com/news/2008/jul/10ndeal7.htm

Dr Singh has maintained a dignified silence over all the attacks of the bjp and the left.
the bjp has been trying from day one to reduce the stature of the PM.
the left has tried to portray the PM as not being aware of the ramifications of getting into the deal.
the left has attempted to show the PM as someone who is more interested in dealing with the west in a naive manner.
Now,the PM has lobbed the ball into the bjps and the lefts courts.
It looks like both of these groupings will be groping in the dark in a search for points of argument.
They run the risk of looking silly.

Clash of the Titans

Prakash Karat and Dr Manmohan Singh represent the brightest minds at the helm of affairs in our country.
They have collided over the nuclear issue and there is a cutting edge to the confrontation.
One cannot stand the other, the short term has gone to Dr Singh.
The Congress seems to be on an upswing with the left doing all it can to shoot itself in the foot in kerala and to an extent in WB.

Both sides are eager to have a go at each other with Kerala and WB going to witness the sharpest contests.
The lefts setbacks in these states could be offset by gains in Tamilnadu and elsewhere.
The left has to address the situation in WB where its attempts to shift gears has been sabotaged.
Idealism survives in India to a large extent due to the communists.
Compared to these two titans of our times,LK advani comes nowhere near their convictions and standards.

Indian National Congress

The suicide attack in Kabul has not yet been seized upon by the bjp in its usual big way.The Congress government takes it in its stride without any knee jerk reactions. The supermen of the bjp,if they had been in power would have felt the need to exhibit bravado.Their depiction of the Congress as nowhere near themselves in the supermen category lands them in predicaments and robs them of their sheen each and every time they face up to a complex situation,in the past, maybe in the future.
The Congress is the only hope for India as a country and that is the reality. The Congress does not have the ability to raise attractive issues for the media, when Rahul Gandhi does the unattractive work,he is derided for not being in tune with the politics of elections. The Congress will weather every onslaught on the country by every party that comes up from time to time solely with the intention of capturing power without any social democratic purposes. The one thing that is pan indian is the Congress party,it is neither cricket nor bollywood.

There are some ideas for the Congress in this article in The Hindu by Malini Parthasarathy.
