machinations

one of the tiniest countries is going through a crisis.

the speaker has had a rocking time.

a friend had spent his early years in this island, the revenue was split among all the citizens

and the president cycled to office, greeting people along the way.

the people used to play cricket with the costliest brands and there was a party most evenings into the night.

it was all possible because of birdshit according to my friend, but it has run out.

there is no caste and not many languages but the heat is on.

CULTURE AND LANGUAGE

A culture and a language can slowly face a decline especially when it is in coexistence with various others and when these others are constantly engaged in a campaign to prove their superiority.
The best method would be to try and establish that the others are more suited for civilised evolution than the native culture and language.
Even if there are some benefits and positives in these others, does that mean that the native culture and language should be allowed to diminish themselves.
The native sentiment is always welcoming to the others as it is a settled sentiment and does not have any imaginary or real threats.
The others while settling down into the native population cannot let go of their beliefs.
The problem arises when the others become a part of movements formed to assert the supremacy of the other cultures in the areas where the others thrive.
The problem becomes acute when these movements or organisations are in a position to dominate and influence the native goings on.
Having an organisation which promotes and defends their thinking is different from being actively involved in the efforts of the others to maintain and retain supremacy.
Some cultures and languages are inevitably older.
It is in order that the members residing in the native retain their identity on their own without associating themselves with the outside forces.
When such activities are identified by the natives ,they get uneasy and start to discard the elements that have crept into their culture through association.
At this juncture, the natives and their leaders are vilified.
This can be seen across the world where one or the other culture language or religion is sought to be established as the real and the best.
It is only when attempts are made to tamper with the native beliefs and practices that order is disrupted.
The south americans and the aborigines have all but lost their native languages and cultures.
The group with force always imposes its thinking as the best.
Commerce and culture should be separated to avoid conflict.
The dravidian parties talk about the dravidian culture, the samajwadi party does not at all talk about culture whereas the bharatiya janata party has culture written all over it and is attempting a propagation of its version of culture.
Some young people can be seen online exhibiting their hatred of periyar and the dravidian movement.
These youngsters will someday realise that the dravidian movement fought for the rights of the natives who were being left out of their own cultures and whose languages faced a bleak outlook when the movement started the anti hindi agitation.

Short sightedness

I had an admiration for the american economy when i was in my twenties which was broken after witnessing the spate of arrests in the late nineties which started with a company i think was world tel, many ceos were arrested,it revealed that greed was what underpinned everything.
the youth in their twenties today will probably be sobering down now after the present ramifications in the american economy.
the fundamentalists who still swear by globalisation and privatisation as if the benefits of these have been made apparent to them through a divine revelation are a never say die and a loud variety.
this article by p.sainath punctures the myth effectively.
as with the reservation debate and as also with the politics of the bjp,the proponents of such issues and parties are too tied up to be expected to possess a clarity of mind and do their best to twist and shout.
prasannarajan who writes in india today comes to mind as one of the holier than thou and cocksure types.

The party is over

The bright minds from the upper castes cannot digest the fact that their pedestals are getting crowded.
The good times of co operation and helping each other are at an end.
No amount of facts can get them to accept the level playing field that is being created.
They exhibit their small thinking by getting dizzy about the creamy layer.
It is only to be expected.
When some sections who have ruled the roost are being consistently stripped of their perches and privileges,it should only be expected that they will go out of their way to oppose the changes.
These sections are in desperate need for a party formed along casteist lines to espouse their supposed grievances.
Having dubbed all the steps that have been taken so far to uplift the backward classes as vote bank politics, and also having tarred the political class as acting against merit, they have made it impossible for themselves to organise themselves politically.
They have taken themselves to the supreme court where their last hopes for some constitutional miracle have been broken.
They have shot themselves in the foot by arguing endlessly and hopelessly.
If there are any instances of perceived injustice in the interview process or elsewhere,it will stem partly from the attitude exhibited in the last two years.

Loud and Like Minded

The BJP and the AIADMK are experts at working themselves into a fury and forgetting that parliament and assemblies are governed by rules of procedure.
At every juncture, these parties manufacture doubts in the minds of the people by arousing some conspiracy theories.
These parties have turned democracy into a shouting match where walking out without utilising the proper avenues and channels satisfies their target audience which consists of sections desperately angling for the past where they were the undisputed overlords.
What has been achieved by such antics other than robbing the younger generations of the chance to witness learned debates.

Rahul Gandhi

The proliferation of the media and the conduct of sms polls have created a feeling of euphoria among sections of the youth.
What is happening is that these sections have got a feeling of success and consequently are in the lookout for targets which are not as deserving as they seem to think themselves to be.
The clear and present target is the congress party .
These sections are highly uncomfortable at Rahul Gandhi s unconventional ways.
Rahul s desire to get to know the country and its problems are frowned upon by these sections.
They would rather that Rahul remain a conventional politician so that they can continue venting their pentup frustrations through the display of angst at the political process.
The media also would sooner see Rahul becoming a normal neta so that it can pick out their transgressions.
All of these sections are in a hurry for Rahul to become a part of the government.
It's clearly a case of damned if you do,damned if you don't.
He has not promised instant achievements but is goading the party into becoming modern.

HINDUISM

Saivism and vaishnavism are the predominant streams which have been artificially merged to create hinduism.

The followers of saivism can be seen to be simple and austere.

Vaishnavism has an opulence about it.

Saivism has simplicity as its defining feature whereas a hint of arrogance can be seen in the followers of vaishnavism.

Sivan is the creator whereas vishnu has many avatars, one of which is rama, who fought against ravana,a saivite.

The various wars all over the world have their origin in the attempt to make a particular religion dominate others.

In south india, vaishnavism has tried to overcome the saivite thinking.

Saivism cannot sustain caste whereas vaishnavism nurtures it.

Some of the alwars were shudras but vaishnavism is more in tune with the northern line of thinking.

In sri lanka, buddhism has tried to overcome the saivite thinking.

Jainism has always tried to diminish the saivite thinking.

The newer religions seem to find it necessary to negate and diminish the older lines of thought.

Saivism can be said to be the original thinking of the indian subcontinent and is deeprooted and is seen all over the country.

Vaishnavism is a later form of thinking which has been influenced by a necessity to develop a superiority over the native and older ways and beliefs.

It is apparent that commerce and business are interlinked with the development of newer religions.

Saivism has remained the simple and pure thinking that it always has been over millennia of interactions ,intrusions and interferences by various lines of thinking and religions.

There's only one way

Why do we need multiple parties if development is the only criteria?
China is being criticized over tibet,if the tibetans have been brutally suppressed like the kurds were under saddam, the criticism would be valid.
The BJP has stoked the hogenakkal issue now,has tried to stall the sethu project, has promised ST status for the gujjars and has taken out rath yatras and sponsored violence.
All in the bid to attain power.
Intelligent politicians have to be alive to issues that can promote the interests of the people and act as a binding factor.
The BJP has been found to be totally lacking in this aspect.
All that it ever does is go back to issues concerning religion but during its reign it allowed pakistan to intrude into our territory and set up well equipped bunkers, parliament was attacked and the jammu and kashmir assembly was also attacked.
The BJP has thus proved itself as lacking in leaders with substance as well as being pathetic in administration.
Yet,the party has the loudest sound bytes, ravi shankar prasad was seen reacting predictably to mr jaiswals observations about madhya pradesh.
