a high ranking officer in the coastguard has been quoted as saying that the canal poses a risk to security.
if security needs to be upped, then it has to be done.
trying to scuttle the project saying that security will be imperilled does not seem to be in order.
earlier the navy chief had made comments suggesting that he was not making adverse comments as it would become an issue.
weighing of the pros and cons would probably have been engaged in at an earlier stage.
if there is an element of risk in the project, concomitant security measures should be in place.
another flaw in the argument is an assumption that the conflict in colombo will continue without being resolved.
